Can Bichon Frises Eat Bananas?

Are Bichon Frises able to eat bananas?

The answer is yes! Bichon Frises, like any other dog, can definitely enjoy bananas as a healthy treat.

Here are some things to consider when feeding bananas to your Bichon Frise.

Bananas for Bichons

The AKC is a great source of info for any questions about feeding your dog. According to the AKC website, “dogs can eat bananas. In moderation, bananas are a great low-calorie treat for dogs. They’re high in potassium, vitamins, biotin, fiber, and copper.”

Bananas are a great food for dogs, just like they are for humans. They are tasty, filling, and full of great nutrients. Additionally, they are low in fat and have natural sugars that are better for your pup than processed or artificial sugars.

So not only are they tasty for your Bichon, they’re healthy, too!

How to Feed

Here’s a video I made about feeding my Bichon Frises Jack and Lance a banana.

First, it’s important to cut up the banana into small pieces. This is because your dog will likely try to swallow it whole. You can also mush up the banana to make it easier for your furry friend to eat.

This probably goes without saying, but you should peel your bananas before feeding. Banana peels aren’t toxic for Bichons–my dogs have definitely eaten them by mistake before–but they can cause some tummy troubles.

Bananas are also an inexpensive snack for your pup. When I buy bananas for my Bichons at Target, they cost only $0.32 each. That’s a lot less than most commercially available dog treats.

Bananas in Moderation

However, it’s important to remember that bananas should not be your dog’s main source of food. Too much of the same food can be unhealthy for your Bichon, and if they start to prefer eating bananas over their kibble, they won’t get the necessary vitamins and minerals that they need.

Bananas, then, are a great snack for your Bichon. But they should be just that–a snack. The AKC says “you should only feed your dog bananas in moderation.” Your Bichon should still get most of their nutrition from their main food.

Conclusion

In conclusion, feeding your Bichon Frize bananas in moderation is a great way to give them a tasty treat. Just make sure you cut or mush up the banana, and don’t replace their regular kibble with bananas. Your pup will thank you!
